Lou LaSalle



Came to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in April 1990 as Vice President for External Affairs and rapidly became “the Mayor.” Lou has been recognized by his colleagues as a community–minded professional who is able to gather the best resources to help create a sense of community spirit and a purpose to improve the health and wellbeing of New Jersey residents.

With indefatigable energy, this consummate volunteer is the go-to person for patients, families and the community. Fundraisers, golf tournaments, community health fairs, galas, the gift shop, government affairs, and development of corporate alliances all are part of his days’ work.
 
Lou is a proud graduate of Rutgers University (BS in Accounting), Seton Hall University (MBA, in Finance and a Certificate in International Finance).

The organizations to which Lou continues to devote his time and interests are countless. In addition to his 56 Years serving the American Heart Association, he chairs the Roseland, N.J. Planning Board, and serves as President of the Essex County Parks Foundation, among others.

Ira Robbins



Joined Valley in 1996 as part of the Bank’s Management Associate Program. From college student to thought leader, his twenty-plus year career at Valley has seen him through several key positions where his invaluable contributions have helped shape Valley’s growth and success. As CEO, Ira has led Valley into the future while keeping true to the company’s roots as a local bank. His vision for success is building a purpose-driven organization which includes embracing innovation, being customer-centric, promoting social responsibility, and empowering Valley’s associates.

Ira earned his Bachelor of Science from Susquehanna University, his MBA from Pace University, and is a graduate of Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey and a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Public Accountants. He serves on the board of the Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest and is on the Morris Habitat for Humanity Leadership Council. Ira takes great pride in community outreach and is an active supporter of several other philanthropic organizations in his community.

Rachel Braun Scherl



Rachel is a champion for women’s health and a pioneer in the space, where she has passionately focused on driving the conversation and the business of women’s sexual and reproductive health. As a business builder and Vagipreneur®, she brings deep knowledge of menstruation, fertility, sexual disease prevention, birth control, pregnancy, menopause and incontinence to help brands and businesses grow. She serves on Boards of Director and Advisory Boards for several female health companies and has been the recipient of a number of business awards. In addition, Rachel is the best-selling author of Orgasmic Leadership: Profiting from the Coming Surge in Women’s Sexual Health and Wellness.

Rachel served on the board of The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life, and served a leadership role in the 2018 MetroWest CommUNITY mission and as chairman of the Mission FedED.  Rachel graduated from the Wexner Heritage Program in 2010, served on the Alumni Council and is part of multiple alumni programs.  Rachel frequently speaks at programs for Greater MetroWest’s Federation, NJ Israel Bonds, Wexner, NCJW and JWI Young Leadership. In 2016, Rachel was recognized as one of the 10 Jewish Women to Watch by Jewish Women International.

Ambassador Danny Danon Addresses Israel Bonds President’s Club 

Every year approximately 18,000 pro-Israel supporters from across the country and around the world converge in Washington, DC, for the annual AIPAC Policy Conference. Ahead of his remarks on March 1 at the Policy Conference, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Danny Danon joined Israel Bonds investors at the President’s Club level ($100,000 and greater), for an off-the-record briefing on 'Israel in the United Nations' at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington on February 29.

Israel Bonds Washington Hosts Hotels.com and getaroom.com Founder Bob Diener

On March 3, over 50 Israel bonds investors came together at the Moxy Hotel in Washington, DC, for a multi-generational networking reception and discussion on entrepreneurship with Hotels.com and getaroom.com founder Bob Diener.

Micha Weinblatt, a young Washington-based entrepreneur, moderated the discussion which focused on several topics including growing a business, managing risk, finding creative solutions to challenges, and how Bob’s Jewish ideals and lessons he learned from his Jewish Day School helped to drive his professional success throughout his career.

Bob, an active Israel Bonds National Board member, shared anecdotes from his book, Biblical Secrets to Business Success, and signed copies for attendees. He also answered questions from the group and spoke on how he got involved with Israel Bonds, including how after making an investment early in his career, was invited to a dinner with Israel’s then prime minister Ariel Sharon.

Israel Bonds Los Angeles Platinum Society Event Draws Top Investors

Israel Bonds leaders gathered for an exclusive event hosted by Bonds Los Angeles’ Platinum Society – which includes premium-level investors – in Los Angeles on February 10, featuring remarks from special guest speaker Sgt. Benjamin Anthony and a conversation between Michael Zaremsky, head of private banking for Bank Leumi USA, and Scott Beiser, chief executive officer of Houlihan Lokey. The event, co-sponsored by Bank Leumi, was hosted by Susanne Czuker and chaired by Nancy and Scott Beiser. Members of Israel Bonds Los Angeles’ Platinum Young Professionals, which includes those under 45 who invest in high amounts, were also in attendance.

​Israel Bonds Chicago Women’s Division Holds Two Events Featuring Alexandra Silber, American Actress, Singer, Writer and Educator

On January 15 and 16, Israel Bonds Chicago Women’s Division held two events featuring Alexandra Silber, American actress, singer, writer and educator. Silber has performed on Broadway, in London’s West End, on television and film, and numerous concert stages.

After playing Hodel in a revival of Fiddler on the Roof in London’s West End and playing Tzeitel in the Tony-nominated revival on Broadway, Silber was inspired to write After Anatevka, a novel in which she explores the future of the remarkable characters from Fiddler beyond the curtain call. Through her research for her book about the later life of Jews from towns like Anatevka, Ukraine, Silber beautifully connected the importance of having a safe and secure homeland, and how investments in Israel bonds help to strengthen the Jewish state.

At both events, which reached maximum capacity, all in attendance received a signed copy of After Anatevka. Nearly 40 percent of all guests became first-time Israel bond investors due to these two gatherings.

Israel Bonds Palm Beach Honored Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis

On January 22 at an event in Boca Raton, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis was recognized and honored for originating legislation that recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The legislation also included a commitment to support Israel’s economy by increasing Florida’s investment in Israel bonds. Bonds’ National Chairman of the Board Howard L. Goldstein presented the CFO with a framed photo taken at Israel’s Ministry of Finance, where the original legislation was presented to Gil Cohen, Israel’s deputy finance minister.

Israel Bonds’ South Palm Beach County Chair Tom Kaplan acted as master of ceremonies, while Bonds’ North Palm Beach County Chair Norman Taplin introduced Mr. Patronis.

Mark Ruben, Palm Beach executive director of Israel Bonds, acknowledged the city of Boca Raton, the city of Boynton Beach, the city of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County for their Israel bond investments as well. Stuart Garawitz, Bonds’ vice president for national sales, represented national headquarters and extended his gratitude to all Israel bonds investors present, which included a number of major Israel bond investors and Florida community leaders.

Israel Bonds Atlanta Hosts Over 70 Major Investors at Region’s First Israel Bonds President’s Club Event

On December 10, over 70 of Atlanta’s major Israel bond investors attended the region’s first Israel Bonds President’s Club event at the home of Charlotte and Joel Marks to meet and hear remarks from the organization’s professional and lay leadership. Joining from New York, National Vice President for Sales Stuart Garawitz detailed the success of the organization throughout its nearly seven decades of existence, with over $44 billion of Israel bonds purchased to date worldwide. Also at the event, President and CEO Israel Maimon stressed the importance of ongoing support from Israel Bonds’ lay leadership, in addition to the significance of encouraging the next generation to invest in the Jewish state. Keynote Moshe Kaplinsky, former head of the IDF Central Command during the Second Lebanon War, spoke on the persisting security threat to Israel from Iran and its proxies, and the obstacles Israel faces and has overcome to become the strong nation it is today.

Following Moshe Kaplinsky’s remarks, Israel Bonds’ National board member and President’s Club Chair Helene Herbstman explained the President’s Club and its benefits, and Bonds Atlanta’s Advisory Council Chair Ed Goldberg shared why he invests in Israel bonds. Newly-appointed National Campaign Chair Chuck Berk, also in attendance, affirmed the success of this initial event, which required investors to make a $100,000 Israel bonds investment over two years, and one that will continue in the years to come to recognize the community’s most prominent Israel bond investors.

​Israel Bonds Palm Beach Sixth Annual “Unity for Israel” Reception

Israel Bonds Palm Beach held its sixth annual “Unity for Israel” reception on Thursday, November 21. Participants from 12 different synagogues (representing Reform, Orthodox and Conservative branches of Judaism), as well as a community-wide foundation, were honored at the event. The evening was standing room only, highlighting the appeal of guest speaker Ambassador Asaf Shariv while bringing together rabbis and cantors from throughout the area. Israel Bonds National Chairman of the Board Howard L. Goldstein gave opening remarks.

Israel Bonds Philadelphia’s Women’s Division Attends Fall Aviva Program 

On November 8, over 70 women attended Israel Bonds Philadelphia’s Women’s Division Fall Aviva Program which featured guest speaker Daniel Sahalo, sales and marketing manager for the Megemeria Jewelry Collection, and included lunch at Maggiano’s restaurant. Daniel spoke on his inspiring and tumultuous journey as a young child immigrating to Israel with his family and others from Ethiopia, which included eight weeks of traveling barefoot at night and waiting at a refugee camp near the Sudanese and Egyptian border until they were finally flown to Israel. Daniel highlighted his enlistment in the Israel Defense Forces followed by his studies at Hebrew University and his rewarding role as sales and marketing manager at Megemeria. The Megemeria School teaches Ethiopian immigrants the art and science of jewelry design and manufacturing, along with math and Hebrew. Following the Aviva Program event, many of the women visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Annual Craft Show, which this year included artists from Israel. The women enjoyed a 30-minute guided tour of the show and had an opportunity to meet with several of the Israeli artists displaying their work.

Israel Bonds Dallas Hosted 70 Investors for a Standing-Room-Only President’s Club Event

On November 20, Israel Bonds Dallas hosted 70 investors for a standing-room-only President’s Club event at the home of Lisa and David Genecov in recognition of those who invest $100,000 or more in Israel bonds. Stuart Garawitz, vice president for sales, and from Chicago, Helene Herbstman, national board member and chair of the President’s Club, were both in attendance. David Brog, former CUFI director in Texas and current head of the Maccabee Task Force, an organization committed to stand against BDS on college campuses by investing in their pro-Israel student body, was keynote. David is also the author of the recent book Reclaiming Israel’s History which was provided to all guests in attendance. Israel Bonds Dallas is chaired by Zev Shulkin, MD, with his leadership team of Larry Olschwanger, immediate past chair, Ken Goldberg, former national campaign chair and Jason Schwartz, national board member. The Dallas President’s Club had 42 investors in 2018 and accounted for over $28 million in investments in Israel bonds.

Israel Bonds’ Real Estate & Allied Industries Division held its annual luncheon at Cipriani in New York on November 13, 2019 to honor Mitchell Rudin, President of Savills North America, with the Israel Peace Medal Award and Fred Gould, Gould Investors Trust, with the Israel Bonds Lifetime Achievement Award. The Bonds organization also welcomed Yonit Levi, leading anchor in Israel, featured on Channel 12, as guest speaker at this year’s event, which brought together over 450 industry professionals committed to #Israel and the Bonds enterprise.

Israel Bonds Philadelphia’s Women’s Division 7th Annual Chai Tea Event 

On August 8, Israel Bonds Philadelphia’s Women’s Division held its 7th annual Chai Tea event honoring Janice Gorson and her two daughters Lynne Cohen and Sherrie Willner.  The gathering of over 150 took place in Margate City, NJ at the home of Daryl and Glenn Segal. Chairing the event this year were Judy Auerbach and Jennifer Willner, who were supported by the Women’s Division newly installed chair, Jean Herz, along with a Tribute Committee composed of friends and family of the honorees.

The guests were entertained by Kol Zimra, an interactive a cappella group, and were provided a briefing on Israel by Elad Strohmayer, spokesperson for the Embassy of Israel to the United States in Washington, D.C. Investments and indications to invest in Israel bonds amounted to $2 million and continue to rise.

Israel Bonds New York Women’s Division and New York Young Investors Society Hold an Exclusive Lunch at Bonds Headquarters

On July 24, Israel Bonds New York Women’s Division and New York Young Investors Society held an exclusive lunch at Bonds headquarters with over 50 attendees, featuring guest speaker Karnit Goldwasser. A prominent lecturer, author and activist within the Jewish community, Karnit spoke of her personal story, detailed in her book, The Path to You, in which she faced the unknown during the abduction of her husband, Ehud "Udi" Goldwasser, along with Eldad Regev by Hezbollah to Lebanon on July 12, 2006. Karnit advocated passionately for more than two years, meeting with politicians, government members, human rights organizations, and fearlessly stood before the Iranian president at the UN General Assembly, demanding to learn the whereabouts of her beloved husband and his comrade. Exuding immense courage and strength, Karnit demonstrated the importance of doing everything in one’s power to effectuate change, and in her account she highlighted the realization that all Jewish people around the world are one nation, especially when encountering struggle and hardship. Her story of resilience, which was published in Hebrew and released in 2011, is the true story of Israel itself.

Israel Bonds Chicago’s New Leadership Division Annual “Cocktails, Craft Beer and Kosher BBQ” Event at Binny’s Beverage Depot

On July 18, Israel Bonds Chicago’s New Leadership Division held its annual “Cocktails, Craft Beer and Kosher BBQ” event at Binny’s Beverage Depot. The night was a tremendous success, attracting a crowd of close to 250 people, of whom over 160 were new Israel bond purchasers specifically for the Binny's event. At the latest count, over $180,000 in bond investments and indications to invest were made, and the figure continues to rise. Local Chicago leadership, including National Board of Directors member and Chicago General Chair Dr. Burton Herbstman, New Leadership National Cabinet member and Chicago New Leadership Chair Teri Herbstman, Assistant Executive Director for Israel Bonds Midwest region Adam Grossman, Chicago New Leadership Vice Chair Brooke Kerendian, New Leadership National Council member Benyamin Moalem and Chicago New Leadership Council member John Osadzinski, all spoke, sharing their individual connections with Israel Bonds and why they invest, and encouraged the large group to do the same. Also in attendance were Israel Bonds President & CEO Israel Maimon and Vice President of Sales, Stuart Garawitz, as well as National New Leadership Chair Hadassah Backman.  Israel Bonds Chicago thanks Michael Binstein of Binny's for hosting the annual event and looks forward to future New Leadership events at this exciting venue.

Israel Bonds Chicago Women’s Division Annual Premiere Event

On Wednesday, July 10, Israel Bonds Chicago Women’s Division held their annual Premiere Event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago, North Shore Conference Center in Skokie, IL, at which a crowd of over 150 attended in support of Israel Bonds and its mission. Laura Orzy, chair of Israel Bonds Women’s Division, joined guests to celebrate first-time event co-chairs, Sara Coven, Sheri Greenbaum and Arielle Levitan, and extend gratitude to immediate past chair Tracy Loewenthal for her tireless dedication to Chicago Women’s Division. Sari Winick, current Chicago Women’s Division chair, proudly accepted her new role and thanked guests for their support.

Guest speaker, Sgt. Benjamin Anthony, founder of “Our Soldiers Speak,” shared his personal story and powerful message about why Israel depends on our assistance through investments in Israel bonds. His candor and passion for the Jewish state reinforced the ongoing need for keeping Israel strong by investing in Israel’s economy and its future generations.

Israel Bonds Cleveland Honor Societies Event

On July 18, Israel Bonds Cleveland held its Honor Societies event at the Point East Condominium Complex in Beachwood, OH, at which 80 Prime Minister Club level Israel bond investors and leaders enjoyed dinner followed by a campaign update from Roger D. Klein, MD, JD, Israel Bonds Cleveland general chair, and Debi Slater, Cleveland Women's Division chair.  In addition, Isaac Yedid was recognized for his leadership, having served as Cleveland general chair from 2016 to 2018. Thomas Lockshin, executive director for Israel Bonds Ohio & Kentucky, addressed the group, thanking all for their high level support and leadership and expounded on ways in which Israel Bonds advocates like themselves can increase participation in Bonds gatherings within their community. 

Guest speaker Galit Peleg, head of the Department for Public Diplomacy and Academic Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel in New York, spoke about the challenges of BDS on college campuses and shared examples of how several individuals have overcome such hurdles. The event was sponsored by Huntington Bank, KeyBank and PNC Bank, who sent representatives on their behalf. Also in attendance was M.J. Lotko, senior financial analyst, representing Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague, who invested $45 million on behalf of the State of Ohio into Israel bonds in 2019 and holds $152.8 million of Israel bonds in total, the largest of any state in the U.S. 

Susan Krantz, board treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee, represented the Cleveland Jewish Publication Company, publisher of the Cleveland Jewish News and Columbus Jewish News. Also in attendance was Erik Kruger, CFO of Development Corporation for Israel/Israel Bonds.

Israel Bonds Washington New Leadership 9th Annual Day at the Ballpark

Israel Bonds Washington New Leadership held a sold out 9th Annual Day at the Ballpark on Sunday, July 7, as the Washington Nationals hosted the Kansas City Royals. More than 60 young professionals and their children enjoyed watching the game from two party suites, which were provided to Israel Bonds through the generosity of the Lerner family, owners of the Nationals, and Irwin Raij, Israel Bonds board member.

The program included an introduction by event co-chairs Cameron Erickson and remarks by Eric Wachter and Miriam Wachter, who shared their story about why their family chooses to invest in Israel through Israel bonds.

“For me, Israel bonds is an investment worth supporting because I am making an investment in support of my values. I was proud to do my part by co-hosting the 9th Annual Day at the Ballpark and am eager to continue this effort for years ahead,” said Cameron. Miriam shared her sentiments by stating, "Israel bonds are an important part of how my family expresses our Zionist values. Getting to join our friends at a ballgame in support of Israel, and to encourage their investments in Israel bonds, was an added bonus!"

The 9th Annual Day at the Ballpark is just one example of how Israel Bonds Washington is growing the connection within the next generation of Israel Bonds investors, developing Israel Bonds New Leadership Division, and fortifying the Bonds mission in support of the Jewish homeland.

The Israel Bonds Philadelphia Legal & Financial Services Division honored Philip Rosenfeldt, Esq., and Mitchell Benson, CPA, MT, CFF during its recent sold-out tribute dinner held at the Fitler Club on May 9, 2019. The division honors individuals for distinguished service to the legal and financial services professions and who demonstrate outstanding support for the State of Israel. A division record $7 million in Israel bond sales and indications to invest was reached.
